“Being honest about your principles means that there can be a real debate on the issues, with the chance of real progress being made.” – Glenn Beck’s Common Sense by Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck's Common Sense by Glenn Beck

There are few books written in the last decade that I think should be required reading in schools all across America, but Glenn Beck’s Common Sense: The Case Against An Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine, by Glenn Beck is one of them.

I finished this book in one sitting. It was amazing; I even found myself underlining portions and annotating margins – something I almost never do, preferring to keep my books in as pristine condition as possible. I have a feeling this book is one I’ll keep with me to reference in conversations with people from day to day. I started reading about 9:00 or 10:00 PM, Saturday. It’s a little after 5:00 AM, Sunday, now, and I just had to blog this.

Beck, a controversial pundit, has written a great “update” to Thomas Paine’s classic work, tailored for the modern 2009 United States citizen, and this book also includes the original work by Thomas Paine as well. So, it’s really two great books for the price of one, along with great suggestions for more reading and research.

Beck also lists, in the book for easy reference, “The 9 Principles” and “The 12 Values” of The 9.12 Project. For anyone who is struggling to make sense of what is going on in our nation, right now, and to understand why our government seems to be doing everything but what makes sense to solve the problems we face, as a nation, this book is for you, because what is needed right now, more than ever, is a little Common Sense.
